The night before
- Finish packing. Anything left loose on load day slows the crew and is easy to lose.
- Charge your phone and set out your "open first" box, suitcases and DO NOT PACK items in one clearly marked area.
- Clear a path from every room to the door. Take down low-hanging pictures and remove rugs the crew will walk over.
- Confirm the crew's arrival window with your consultant.
- Arrange for kids and pets to be somewhere safe and calm.
Load day, step by step
- The crew arrives and introduces themselves. The driver or crew lead will walk through the home with you and confirm what's moving.
- Protection goes down. Floor runners, door-jamb protectors and pads on banisters — before a single item is carried.
- Inventory. On long-distance moves the driver tags every item and box and notes its condition. Review it and ask questions; you'll sign it and receive a copy.
- Furniture is prepared. Pieces are disassembled as needed, padded and stretch-wrapped.
- Loading. Heavy, sturdy items go on first; boxes and fragile items are secured on top and in tiers.
- Final walkthrough. Check every room, closet, cabinet, basement, attic and garage with the crew lead before the truck door closes.
- Paperwork. Sign the bill of lading and confirm the delivery address and your phone number.
What to have on hand
- Water and a place for the crew to take a quick break
- Your moving folder with the estimate, order for service and contact numbers
- Cash or card for any last-minute needs; tipping is appreciated but never required
- Basic cleaning supplies for a final wipe-down after the truck leaves
Delivery day
- Arrive before the truck and decide where large furniture goes. Tape room labels on doors so the crew can work without asking.
- Check off the inventory as items come off the truck. Note any missing or damaged items on the paperwork before signing — this protects your claim.
- Direct placement. Crews will place furniture and reassemble beds and tables; ask now, not after they've left.
- Unpack the essentials first — beds, bathroom, kitchen basics — and let the rest wait.
After the move
Take your time unpacking, then call for box pick-up. If you discover damage later, contact your consultant right away; claim windows are limited, and keeping the item and packaging helps.
